Celeste and Her First-Time Homebuying Story

Buying a home is one of the most significant financial decisions a person can make. It is a decision that requires careful consideration, planning, and execution. For many people, the idea of owning a home can seem out of reach due to financial constraints or other challenges. However, with the help of a skilled real estate agent and the right resources, owning a home CAN become a reality. Celeste's story is a great example.

I had the privilege of meeting Celeste at an open house in December 2022. She came with her two children and was curious about the home I had listed. She shared her dream of owning a home and told me she had been to many open houses, hoping to stay motivated. Unfortunately, she had been told by many agents that she was not ready.

Despite these setbacks, Celeste did not give up. She was a busy woman, working as a full-time firefighter for the city of St. Paul while also raising two children. We began the homebuying process in January, but family emergencies caused delays, and we did not resume the search until March when we discovered that the city of St. Paul has a grant program for first-time homebuyers. With the help of Gustavo Ramos with Edge Financing, we were able to get Celeste into the down payment assistance program.

The search for the perfect home for Celeste and her family was not an easy one. The current housing market is highly competitive and finding an affordable home that met Celeste's needs was challenging. But, with determination, perseverance, and a bit of luck, we found the perfect home. Finally, closing day arrived on April 28. Celeste received a $40,000 grant from the city of St. Paul and bought her home with only $1,000. She was now a homeowner, building generational wealth for her family.

 Working with Celeste throughout her homebuying process was an honor and privilege. Her story serves as a reminder that with the right help, resources, and determination, the dream of owning a home can become a reality. The real estate industry needs to continue to work toward providing affordable housing solutions and resources to help people achieve their dreams. Celeste's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, and I hope it inspires others to pursue their dreams of homeownership.
